Neurosurgical iPhone app demo-ready

Actually, I am quite proud these days! I managed to get my first iPhone app working in the way I wanted. Now I can expand its content!

I have used Apple’s documentation on top of some code examples from iPhoneSDKarticles.com, mixed with what I learned from Beginning iPhone development. The result is a navigation-based application where you can browse several categories (Brain, Spine, and more) to find evidence-based information on diagnosis and treatment.

Once in the topic view, you get a short summary with the most relevant items while in portrait mode. To read more, like a reference and background information, you turn the iPhone to landscape mode. The view switches automatically to the detailed information. Don’t worry if you think the text is small: using the finger gestures you know from the Safari edition on the iPhone, you can zoom in! The only issue I haven’t been able to resolve is that the webview does not use the entire width of the screen, but leaves a small part blanc. It’s not bothering me actually, so for now I will leave it this way.

I will start adding more content now… it’s not yet in the App Store, I first want to test it in practice and expand it where I think it can be improved.

Any suggestions are welcome!

I am also a neurosurgery resident in the US and was curious about testing the application and seeing when it would be available.

  6. Hi Joshua,

Thx for your reaction. At this moment, I am still experimenting with the best way to present the knowledge, recently changed some things (posted in Twitter, not yet on blog). I’ll keep your offer in mind, may definitely be interesting in the future! But at this moment, it’s not ready for testing yet…
