WordPress 4.0 + NextGEN 1.9.13 = excellent!

After having experienced severe problems with NextGEN galleries after updating to version 2.x I used these simple instructions to downgrade to version 1.9.13. Despite the warning on the instruction site, things work as a charm and turn out to be fully compatible with WP 4.0. Quote from the instructions:

IMPORTANT NOTE! Rolling back to 1.9.13 is no longer supported and is likely to cause problems. Rollbacks should be limited to recent versions within the last couple months. Also, for anyone using Pro, any rollback should be limited to the minimum compatible version of NextGEN Gallery (v2.0.63)

You must be kidding me… Exactly upgrading to 2.x is likely to cause problems and the old stuff still works best!

So for all of you experiencing comparable problems (which, based on Google’s search results, seems to be quite a number): use FTP to rename your 2.x folder to something likeĀ nextgen-gallery-2 and unzip the 1.9.13 download and place in the same folder (wp-content/plugins, likely).

Activate the old version, ignore any update messages from WordPress and enjoy! :-)

NextGEN 1.9.13 is a very old version of this pluguin
I recently upgrade my NGG to 2.0.66 ,and it happened some problems about some Chinese language path support.
the thing I would want to ask is wp 4.x really support NGG 1.9.13? It really works?

  2. In the version that I tested it worked and kept working. Recently I upgraded to a different theme for my blog and that also solved the NextGen problems. You can always switch back to the latest version without problems (although backups don’t hurt either).
