Neurosurgical management of childhood brain tumors

I needed to have some more literature on pediatric neuro-oncology, and today I did a PubMed search to expand my list. Found some interesting articles, one of which I highly recommend for residents.

The article from Nejat et al (2008) was very “infotaining”. Contains several good images, and a good overview of pediatric brain tumors. Besides, it offers some interesting MRI pictures to learn from. I included on of them in this blog, about a pontine glioma. Images like this do already cause a shiver over my back, but looking at the encasement of the basilar artery here… not good, not good at all. There is another “shiver image” of leptomeningeal metastases that’s also worth the look.

Later tonight or tomorrow I will start reading “The role of surgery in pediatric gliomas” from Pollack (1999). Looks like some useful lessons as well….
