Edit path in Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

A short “note to self” that you may find useful too. You can edit the $PATH variable in Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan by modifying the .bash_profile file in your home directory. It’s easy: open Terminal and enter

to open the file in your predefined editor. Alternatively you can use vim or nano like:

The last thing you need to do after editing (and saving) the file, is to reload it:

This saves you the effort of logging out and back in. That’s all!
