Update on NeuroMind

Many things have happened since the last update of NeuroMind to version 1.5. First of all, I would like to thank all those who sent me their feedback and suggestions for new content (new scores in particular). Second, media coverage has increased, something I am happy with. Medical apps are taken serious nowadays, which is a very positive thing.

For the record, an update on the total number of downloads:

When searching the App Store for “neurosurgery”, this is what the results screen looks like:

I can only say that I am still impressed when seeing the picture: NeuroMind has been the world’s most downloaded iPhone and iPad app for neurosurgery in the last months! Even better, the top 3 neurosurgical iPhone apps are the ones that I made.

This is how my apps are used all over the world:

(by the way, the graph is made with AppViz – a great software product I just wished I discovered earlier)

The Maastricht University Medical Center recently released a press release (in Dutch and English) after the interview in the Dutch Medical Journal (in Dutch).

Another thing that I am pleased about is that the famous “Top 10” list by iMedicalApps.com has been updated, and NeuroMind is still present! It’s a “Top 20” list now, but NeuroMind is still in the top 10. By the way, make sure to check their list, there is interesting stuff in there! Thank you guys from iMedicalApps, great work! Keep on going! And another thanks for the flattering description:

Neuromind is a production of Pieter Kubben, a Dutch neurosurgeon who is an impressive amalgam of clinician, researcher, and software engineer.

(although I am not a neurosurgeon yet – still resident – it is a pleasant reading :-) )

Looking to the future, there will be an update to version 1.6 in Q2-2011 with new scores. Meanwhile I am experimenting with more interactive features that will be introduced in the second half of this year. Furthermore I am looking at Blackberry as a development platform (next to iOS and Android) and NeuroDSS.com will be matured in the course of this year. I cannot remember if I mentioned it earlier, but NeuroDSS is a webbased version of the same database that is used for the apps (a sqlite file). It contains all the scores, but no anatomical images. Currently it is still in beta version: the technical basis is fully functional, the layout is… basic.

And there will be a little multimedia surprise online in April 2011… stay tuned!

So lots of work going on behind the scenes. I will keep you posted on any interesting new developments in the near future. For minor updates, you can follow my Twitter account. Feedback is and will remain welcome… Thanks!
